Can the user do anything to improve the speed of simulation? I've noticed that just adding nodes to observe in the transient analysis slows it down significantly, is there anything to check in the system settings of the computer that would help the situation? |

So as an update - the circuit I was simulating is posted at https://www.circuitlab.com/circuit/gf4fta/sensortest2/ This may be just me as I'm a newbie at CL, but have used SPICE off and on for a number of years. This circuit became really slow in transient simulation (>1000 seconds but the browser came back asking to kill the page so it never completed). The simulation was set up to run 2mS @ 100nS steps. Maybe just totally conincidentally I noticed my Sophos antivirus blinking and 3 adware warnings were blinking as quarantined. Maybe Sophos interfering here? It did not recognize two of the files it thought were adware. So I'm not really sure what to think here, but this simulation doesn't complete because of the browser wanting to kill the pages (Chrome or Iron browser). Suggestions? |

I think the nonlinear components (diode) can slow things down. I made some simplification, for simulation purposes you don't need a voltage source running a voltage controlled voltage source. also the results don't seem to change when the time step is 5e-6 and runs much faster then your 100^-9. https://www.circuitlab.com/circuit/zgfsq4/jonhayenga-forum/ here is a PIC so I can delete this from my work bench some time |

Thanks Garrett, I did clean up the step size, and all seems to work fine now. May have just been a funky browser problem. A general question: Has anyone figured out where the documentation is for the diode parameters. I'd like to adjust to get a nearly ideal diode for some non-linear responses that I'm trying to put together to simulate hysteresis in a particular sensor/ mechanical system. |
