'Paste' suprimposes over existing schematic even when I reposition original

I am trying to copy a schematic from one workbench into another existing circuit but the past action always lands directly on top of my existing circuit. I have tried pre-positioning the original circuit but the pasted item seem to follow it around, always landing square on top of the original

And although it is 'selected' in red the move tool does not let me move the pasted circuit.
