Do you mean an incandescent lamp? That's kinda mostly useless, as you can't do anything with the "output", the photons. Also the major variable, the lamp resistance, is a function of time and the mass of the filament, which may be hard to model and specify. |

If you just need a symbol then you could use a US resistor and maybe draw a dotty box round it. If you want a functional model then as @arduinohacker explains, filament lamps present a non-trivial exercise in modelling. We already have a Light Emitting Diode (LED) part in the 'Diodes' section. Incandescent lamps are not a part that I think we need. They're useful and familiar for the first couple circuits, but most realistic designs will use LEDs instead. @kvimbo - I don't think the OP meant valves/tubes; that request is covered in great detail here. |

@tube66677 - I wasn't implying that lamps are useless. Color-accurate halogens, super-bright mercury vapor spotlights, and colorful neon bulbs will be around for a long time. However, CircuitLab is mostly used for designing PCBs. It could be used for, but is not intended for, designing residential wiring where bulbs would be present. If you're building a PCB to power a flourescent bulb, the bulb will probably be a custom SPICE model (for simulation) or a connector to the bulb (for a plain schematic). |

We might be looking at the desire for lamps from the wrong direction; It's possible that what some people want is a small indicator lamp to show an on/off state at that point without having to break workflow and switch to the DC solver. I know that CL still needs to run the simulation no matter what so totally real-time control is a bit out of the question, but perhaps adding in a logic button that automatically triggers the sim when pressed and an indicator/node that shows the current solution visually might be helpful. (I'm working on a circuit that needs a microcontroller interface and juggling 1s and 0s between all the inputs is a bit confusing to my old brain.) raraujo07 wrote: "Could you add Neon Glow Lamps ?" I have seen incandescent lamps used as the gain control element in Wien Bridge oscillators but never neons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wien_bridge_oscillator A neon has a very sharp negative resistance slope resulting in a bistable state or switching action. This is not what is required in a Wien Bridge oscillator. :) |
