555 Output Swing Fixed to 5V

I was going nuts trying to figure out why the 555 output in my sim would not go higher than 5 volts, even though I applied 12 volts to VCC! Then it hit me, the 555 must be considered a Digital Element. Is this correct? And if so, why the heck does it have a VCC pin?

Feature Request: allow the output of the 555 to be driven from VCC and not 5 volts.
