Summary

Provides Warning Light (yellow led) and Stop Light (red led) for my HO scale train backing into a hidden siding.

Description

The 5K variable resistors are for adjusting the yellow and red LEDs. Adjust LED brightness to minimum (off) with no detection in process. The 10K variable resistors are for adjusting IR range detection sensitivity. Not very long range, so detector LEDs must be stationed next to the track. IR LEDs are connected to the PCB via PCB pin-type terminal strips so the PCB can be mounted under the layout with wiring to the LEDs which are mounted next to the track. Yellow and red LEDs are wired on a remote facia panel and connected to the PCB via PCB pin-type terminal strips. (Credit https://tomstrainsandthings.com/ for the DCC power supply idea.)
