This is a simple circuit for a sun jar. V1 is a solar panel. When sun shines on it, the transitor, Q1 opens and current flows into BAT1, charging a rechargeable lithium coin cell battery. When it's dark, the voltage from V1 is low, so Q1 closes and current flows from BAT1 through Q1 and the LED D2, lighting it up.
D1 keeps current from flowing backwards through the solar panel(V1) from BAT1 when the light is low. We want everything from BAT1 going to the LED.
