I have a 1000 liter tote tank that I use for my gardening needs. Last year's rainfall was so much that I had to dump the tank 3 times but this year (2024) it was down to 40% level before we got some decent rain. So I decided to get a second tote tank & piped in parallel with the 1st tank. This will allow me to store some reserve when we get a lot of rain & at this time of the year (Sept) the grow season is starting to wind down, meaning that I won't need 2000 liters of water. So I can leave the auxiliary tank out of service (outlet valve closed). My water system & greenhouse are all PLC controlled so with the new tank I want to have position data sent to the PLC. If I have 1 or both tanks out of service the logic will take the appropriate action to operate & protect the equipment. These tiny plastic 'modules' have a short 3 conductor cable needing Vcc, common & the output. They're water proof & will go to a small water tight JB with a few terminal blocks & a window for the LED. The circuit shown will be duplicated for the other tank & although I have a bit more instrumentation to go for the new tank, these items are tricky as I need to fab non-ferrous (aluminum) customized brackets to mount the sensors near to where the valve handles will be when they're open (they're 1/4 turn ball valves). This is still a work in progress & I'll update these details later. Apr 2025: I've installed these valve position transducer modules back on both tanks & are working well as inputs to the PLC controlling my water system.
