I actually built an actual version of the circuit described in the following post but using a 3.4V 350mA high power LED, a 5.5V solar panel, and 3 AA NiMh batteries.

Being a noob, I don't fully grasp the flow of the current so I was hoping to be able to tweak the numbers here to see the impact.
At the end of the day, I think I lucked out and the numbers HAPPENED to come out correctly based on the components I used but it's just dumb luck, particularly in terms of not using a resistor on the LED.
