5vdc From the USB port of the PC fires a 5V mini relay which passes 120VAC to the coils of a larger 120VAC 10A relay. The normally open contacts of the relay provide power to the duplex receptacle. I use the receptacle to plug in a surge protector and any devices I want to have on when the PC is turned on.
Turns on printer, monitors and other PC peripherals only when the desktop is turned on. Not sure if this is a good or safe design, but it works.
