Provides a 3.3V binary output to indicate when a 6V battery pack (4xAA) is running low (< 5V). Intended for interfacing with a Raspberry Pi.
This circuit is used in my autonomous robotics platform. Two battery packs are used (each consisting of 4xAA NiCd/NiMH in series) - one drives the digital components (Raspberry Pi plus controller board) and the other drives the electromechanical devices (Motors and Servos). This circuit provides a HIGH signal (3.3V) when a battery pack output voltage drops below 5V.
Both Zener diodes are 3.3V.
Current at 'Out' should not exceed 12ma, Voltage at out must not exceed 3.3V or drop below 0V.
