Became very stable with one lead of a quartz crystal connected to "A" or "B". Near but not at the stated crystal frequency.
I built this on a bread board many years ago. I placed a 10 mc. quartz crystal in series with a 50 pfd trimmer capacitor to be placed between 'A' & 'B' in the circuit. A frequency counter displayrd a frequency above 10 mc. and the trimming capacitor had no effect. Nothing else seemed to change the frequency either. The frequency was very stable. I checked the wiring, and found I had not plugged the trimming capacitor to either 'A' or 'B'. So the circuit was only connected to one quartz crystal lead, and oscillating just fine.
