Philips SP-25, 2 way passive crossover.
I have a pair of Philips SP-25 speakers that I bought from my Mom after my Dad passed away over 25 years ago. These have a 7" hexagonal shaped speaker & a 1.5" tweeter. While I used them some time ago, it's been over 10 years since last used. A friend of mine had an amplifier that he was having some issues with & asked me to check it out & clean it up. I decided to use these speakers as the load & they sounded pretty good but I did notice that 1 unit was louder than the other with balanced outputs from the amp. After playing with the highs, lows & balance I found out that I had a dead tweeter. I opened it up to see the rear panel (spring load connectors, fuse & 3 position dB switch), a PCB (2 coils & a non-polarized electro cap) & the speaker & tweeter. The tweeter was O/C & when I separated the magnet from the voice coil I saw the burnt/ blown open spot. For those in the same position the tweeter p/n is: AD 0140/T8 & although not easy to find, I did find a pair on Ebay & am just waiting for their arrival. Not sure on the date, but I believe that my Dad got these in the late '70s.
